Re-using a former Freeman Hardy Willis Shoe Depository situated in the centre of Leicester, this mixed-use development provides 454 student bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms, a student common room, reception area and refectory. In addition, the development provides several commercial uses on the basement, ground floor and mezzanine levels including creative workshop areas, offices, a supermarket and a cafe.
The site has three key public street frontages; the refurbishment of the building necessitated an over-cladding solution that presents a high-quality face to the public realm, with a feature entrance to the student reception and the inclusion of a new two-storey brick and glass 'internal street' for the commercial elements.
Construction is due to start in 2012.
