A modern contextual solution for a brownfield site in Lewes.
Working with River Oaks Homes, ECE Architecture has developed contemporary, sustainable and considerate proposals for a mixed use development within South Downs Nation Park.
Responding to its edge of settlement location, the 79 new homes and commercial space have been designed to the highest quality, integrating pedestrian flow and enhancing the public realm.
The high quality new homes will target the “Code for Sustainable Homes” level 4, ensuring they achieve high environmental standards and secure a sustainable future for the existing site. The purpose built 20,000ft2 commercial office space has also been designed to a high standard, targeting a “Very Good” rating under BREEAM 2014.
Receiving overwhelming support during pre-application consultation, the design creates a high quality mixed use scheme of distinct character, utilising traditional materials, proportions and urban features found within Lewes.
The elevations are based on a simple and well-proportioned style using a limited palette of largely traditional materials to create a strong rhythm to the proposed street-scenes.
The application is targeted for determination at the end of May.
