ECE attend the Portsmouth Phoenix Project
ECE Senior Architect Nick Francis attended the Portsmouth Phoenix project following a successful application.
The project focused on exploring alternative design proposals for the sites of Leamington House and Horatia House, which are scheduled for demolition due to the cladding on both buildings not meeting safety criteria.
With a demand in Portsmouth for more social housing, Nick joined other Architects and Planners at the University of Portsmouth to develop proposals for the site. The 2.5 day workshop comprised of a site visit, intense team composition session, a design development day with lectures, interim reviews and a final presentation.
Retrofit was one of the key design themes explored, along with open space to retain the existing community.
The Portsmouth Phoenix project gave Architects, Planners and current students a chance to collaborate and provided a platform for discussion. Those who attended benefited from mentoring by Ruth Butler (Ruth Butler Architects), Andrew Matthews (Proctor & Matthews) and Russell Curtis (RCKa).
