GBMet Central Brighton Campus open

ECE are thrilled that the Central Brighton Campus for Greater Brighton Metropolitan College is now open, with students and staff now using the spaces created.

A new extension, which was approved in March 2019, extends Pelham plinth and tower. Existing space has also been refurbished to provide new workshops.

The college have said:

“The new facilities position the college at the cutting edge of training for the creative and service industries and will play a key role in driving forward the region’s economic growth.”

The east wing of the extension is home to new hair and beauty salons, with a salon reception and nail bar situated by the main college entrance. This allows improved access for public clients.

The west wing is home to studios, workshops and digital studios for Creative Industries.

The building is set within a large outdoor plaza that includes secure bike storage for staff, students and visitors – and is open to the public to enjoy during the daytime.

GB Met’s interim chief executive Andrew Green said:

It’s only been a few short weeks since we welcomed our students back on site and into our brand new facilities and we’re already seeing the benefits to both their education and to the wider community.”

Despite challenges with material sourcing, main contractor Willmott Dixon kept the site safely operating during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that the project stayed on track.
