Working closely with the client CALA Homes, ECE Architecture has completed a bespoke residential development in the heart of the South Downs National Park.
Andlers Wood provides 77 sustainable new homes, blending contemporary design with the local vernacular.
It includes a range of accommodations from 1-bed apartments to 4-bedroom houses, with 40% designated as affordable housing. The landscape-led approach enhances the public realm and integrates the development with the surrounding nature, drawing inspiration from the local area and incorporating green and blue infrastructure to support biodiversity.
ECE worked closely with landscape consultant Fabrik to create three landscape character areas to balance the built form with the surrounding natural elements.
With support from ECE Planning, the development was informed by feedback from the Design Review Panel and public consultations, resulting in the development being unanimously supported by the South Downs National Park Planning Committee.
The sustainability strategy reduces carbon emissions by 15% and energy demand by 19%, ensuring the project’s integration into the local landscape while providing a sustainable and seamlessly integrated solution into the fabric of the local landscape while preserving the ‘hidden village’ character of Liss.
