Won by ECE Architecture in design competition, this project represents an extensive reorganisation for Birkbeck College to bring all their operations under one roof at their Central London campus between Malet Street and Torrington Square. The architectural response required a major new building.
Our solution to the design problem involved the reorganisation of the college’s activities to be accessed from the newly landscaped Torrington Square and for an enlarged learning resource centre and open access computer area to be used from the new main entrance.
These changes have been achieved with great success and Birkbeck College buildings now have a new prominence and stature at the University of London.
“We have enjoyed working with Nick Evans and his team very much. They bring support, commitment, professionalism, expertise and great enthusiasm to our developments. I would not hesitate to recommend the practice for other building projects.”
Professor Philip Dewe, Vice Master, Birkbeck
