ECE were commissioned to design and build a new primary school for West Sussex County Council in order to create 60 much needed primary school places for East Grinstead.
The heart of the school is characterised by a double height entrance space, with an elevated library. The school plaza defines and gives prominence to the main entrance of the school.
The community room is placed on the front corner of the school so that it is visible from the road. There is a separate entrance so that this room can be used independently from the school if required, which also allows out-of-hours access to the main hall.
Eight further classrooms are arranged along a learning corridor. These Classrooms are arranged in pairs, separated by glazed shared breakout spaces and wet play areas. This allows for more flexible learning and also enables views out from the central circulation space.
Estcots Primary School was built to achieve BREEAM Very Good, with solar thermal renewables.
“Throughout the process we have been consulted and listened to on every aspect. ECE’s careful explanations, drawings and measuring out rooms meant that we knew exactly what our school would look like. ECE’s advice on colour schemes and furniture was excellent and it means that we now have a school which flows together from one phase to another.”
