ECE worked alongside Roffey homes to redevelop the site of an existing car showroom into nine new residential units, comprising of 7 three bedroom dwellings, 2 four bedroom dwellings and garages and car ports.
The scheme design takes architectural influences from both the immediate local context and the wider local vernacular in order to create a scheme that relates well to the existing built form around the site, whilst also establishing a strong sense of place and a marker within the street.
Scale was carefully considered in order to maximise the development opportunity within the context of the site constraints, resulting in three storey dwellings on the road frontage and two storey dwellings set-back within the site. The corner building benefits from a glazed ‘hat’ providing access to roof gardens to two of the dwellings. A timber framed car-barn structure provides visual separation between the dwellings and the petrol filling station.
