Land North of Oakley Lane, Wimbourne

ECE Architecture, in collaboration with a full design team, has secured reserved matters planning consent for a key development alongside the Stour River, north of Merley in Dorset. This project encompasses 285 new dwellings and the establishment of Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG), all thoughtfully integrated into the valley setting and is the first phase of a mixed-use development.

Drawing inspiration from the natural surroundings, the architectural design closely adheres to the parameter plans and extensive design code agreed at the Outline stage. This approach compliments the authentic architectural Dorset identity and incorporates design elements typical for the surrounding area.

Three identity areas came together, each with its own clear language in architectural and landscape design, all rooted in careful study of the local Dorset architectural references, including the historic setting of Canford Magna. They all carry elements which reference each other within the comprehensive landscape network underpinning and unifying the scheme. The design produces a scheme of high-quality architectural design and materials.

The scheme provides 40% affordable housing with a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership, contributing to a more inclusive and diverse community.
