Together with Kier, ECE developed a scheme for The West Reading Education Network (WREN) School on the former Elvian School site at Bath Road in Reading.
WREN School is a mainstream secondary free school, offering a broad curriculum and innovative teaching in a supportive, modern and attractive environment, with wrap around care from 8am to 6pm.
The main school building, which has been designed over 4 floors, focuses on the central atrium where students eat their meals, gather socially and for group study as part of the wrap around care. The scheme encompasses 62 classrooms, an assembly hall, drama and dance studios, office space and an inclusion suite aptly named ‘The Wren’s Nest’.
Legacy landscape features are incorporated into the design including a sunken garden that has been transformed into a nature learning area. In addition, the school has a four court Sport England sports hall with fitness studio, an outdoor pitch and a multi-use games area.
