Retrofit

80% of our built environment will still exist by 2050, by which time the UK has a legal commitment to be net zero carbon. As signatories to Architects Declare, the RIBA 2030 challenge, and with a strong commitment to sustainable design, ECE understand the role existing buildings have in achieving this goal.

We can assist in achieving net zero carbon targets through our following services:

Retrofit Case Study

The Wapping High School project converts the disused Polly Peck HQ building in central London into a new school and community facilities.

A new floor has been added high above the streets below to provide a multipurpose hall and linked sky garden. The ground floor and basement have been opened up to provide new meeting spaces and restaurant, all of which are open for much needed use by the local multi-ethnic community. This will be the heart of the school from which the city scape around can be enjoyed.

The school are delighted with the results and the project is an excellent boost for education in Tower Hamlets. The need for education is to soar in the borough and the places provided by this project have helped to meet this demand.
