Blatchington Manor

ECE have delivered a 43 bed luxury dementia residential care home at Blatchington Manor in Seaford.

The highly unusual nature of the site, and the relationship with the surrounding residential uses presented a unique opportunity to create an individual and design led nursing home. The scheme re-uses and connects to the historic building, promotes a sustainable and modern approach to infill development, and utilises appropriate building forms and materials within the Conservation Area.

The design response to the site was formulated following extensive study of the surrounding area, consultation with Lewes District Council Planning Department and an understanding of the function and operation of the proposed building.

The use of appropriate materials was carefully considered, the warm brick reflects the abundance of flint in the area combined with elements of stained timber boarding, which creates a ‘grounded’ building form appropriate to sit alongside the white rendered historic form to the Firle Road frontage.
