Added Value
- ECE developed a design that improved the wider townscape by removing existing trees to open the site to the public, creating greater visibility for the college.
- To further integrate the college into the local community ECE developed the scheme to form new ‘shopfronts’ that open onto a new public plaza.
- The community benefit from the scheme was recognised by the Civic Trust award.
Description
This new three storey building forms a vibrant new entrance for the College campus, with a double height reception area and internal bridge link to the existing College building.
The scheme provides a new hair and beauty training facility; together with a sustainable classroom where a learning platform cantilevered over the green roof provide facilities for retraining on renewable technologies.
The building is designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent.
“It is everything I could have hoped for when we first looked at the plans and I am so grateful that we have worked with the team at ECE, for their vision and skills to make it a reality. The staff and students are absolutely thrilled with the building and full of plans for new work for the future. It’s a fantastic example of the impact a building can have. I have to confess that I have changed my route home so that I can drive past it in the evening when the lighting gives the buildings even more presence.”
