Brighton Bilingual Primary School

ECE were commissioned to design a new three-form entry primary school on a former Council depot site in Hove.

For two years prior to the design process, the school was operating in temporary accommodation and developing a clear ethos and teaching approach in a truly bilingual learning environment. The school’s senior leadership team, local authority and contractor Kier were involved in a series of Client Engagement Meetings to evolve the design. As a result, the final building promotes a contemporary aesthetic form, with functionality that responds to the unique teaching approach and site context.

The completed project incorporates a combination of teaching spaces, studios, technology rooms and learning resource spaces.  The scheme is two-storey and comprises three facing materials, including feature brick detailing to the main entrance elevation.

Sustainable and renewable energy sources were incorporated throughout to minimise the development’s energy requirements.
